A star of a different kind was showcased at Chapter Arts Cinema in Cardiff recently - at the launch of the National Participation Standards DVD. Stan the Standards Octopus made his animated debut as he hosted and narrated a film exploring participation standards for young people.
The Children and Young People's Participation Consortium and the Participation Unit have developed seven participation standards for children and young people in Wales, to ensure participation is a positive and meaningful experience.
The DVD has been created as a resource to raise awareness of the standards and to support the training of adults to incorporate them into their work with young people.

media4creative worked with groups from Rhondda Cynon Taf, Torfaen, Swansea, Merthyr Tydfil, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and Blaenau Gwent where each area demonstrated one of the seven standards. The film provides examples of how young people are listened to and how being kept informed enables them to participate in decisions that affect them.
The launch at Chapter was an opportunity for the young people involved in the project to watch the finished film on the big screen and was a great way of celebrating their involvement.
And Stan the Standards Octopus certainly is a star in the making!
